Programme

WHRPC has a main playing season from October through till April, the climate here can get a little harsh  through the remaining months though the hardier members can still be found out on the piste regardless of the weather or the time of year.

Every Thursday evening during the main season from 4pm we gather at Hanging Rock Reserve for our ‘Petanque at the Rock’ sessions, this usually entails 3 games of petanque played in a social manner but still quite competitively followed by a BBQ.

The only things that would normally stop this are torrential rain or Red Alert Days declared by the Fire Department. There is a small fee for playing Thursday night but this does include your BBQ

Liquid refreshments and glasses are BYO.

Throughout the year, we play every Monday, excluding public holidays, at the Club’s new Woodend Town Piste at the Old Racecourse in Forest Street, Woodend. From 2pm for 2.30pm play for 3 games.

Play, from April till September (off season) is of course subject to the weather being reasonable, it can get a little chilly and wet during the Woodend winters and if it is a bit inclement it is advisable to check if play has been cancelled before heading off to the piste. Start times are variable during the winter months but members will be advised of any changes in this regard.

The club also runs a series of Regular Events for Members and Guests some of which are quite competitive and some are of a more social nature, these are listed below. There are also a range of events in which members may participate, which are listed on the PFA website these can be quite competitive and are are run by the various clubs around Victoria and of course there are the National and International Competitions organised by the PFA and the various international federations around the World.

Information on the events run by the Club and some other Competitions will be published on the Club’s website as information comes to hand.

Regular Events

November Triples Competition

Our signature tournament is the November Triples, it is part of PFA’S official competition calendar and therefore open to all Victorian licensed petanque players.

Bastille Day

The annual Bastille Day event is held on Bastille Day (14th July) The event is held at Hanging Rock, the event is extremely social and very popular despite the weather being somewhat inclement by this time of year - Petanquers are a hardy lot, produce a Piste, some good food and wine and they will be there! We invite a circle of friendly clubs to this event.

Echuca Murray Maul

A wonderful social weekend in Echuca every August, the Murray Maul is played on the pedestrian roadway in the historic Port Precinct, a very picturesque if very unorthodox piste (well some would call it a piste!). It's a truly convivial weekend, from Friday afternoon drinks to a fabulous lunch on Sunday.

We invite several clubs with whom we have close friendships to our various events.
